Phase 1:
Initial Evaluation
Baseline Measurement & Questionnaire:

The client completes a comprehensive questionnaire within the Myndlift app, assessing their sleep patterns, causes of insomnia, and the impact of poor sleep on their daily life, including mood, energy levels, and cognitive function.

Initial neurofeedback sessions using the Muse headband are conducted to assess brain activity related to relaxation, sleep onset, and stress response, establishing a baseline for the client’s sleep issues.

Phase 2:
Neurofeedback Training
Customized Exercises & Regular Practice

Based on the evaluation, a neurofeedback program is tailored to help the client improve sleep onset, maintain deeper sleep stages, and reduce nighttime awakenings. These exercises focus on training the brain to achieve a more relaxed state conducive to sleep.

Clients are encouraged to engage in neurofeedback exercises multiple times a week, particularly before bedtime, to reinforce healthier brain patterns and support better sleep quality.

Phase 3:
Action Plan
Sleep Hygiene Techniques,
Mindfulness and Relaxation and Nutritional Support

The client is provided with a comprehensive sleep hygiene plan. This may include establishing a regular sleep schedule, creating a relaxing bedtime routine, optimizing the sleep environment (e.g., reducing light and noise), and avoiding stimulants like caffeine and electronic devices before bed.

Guided meditations and relaxation techniques are offered to help the client unwind before bed. These meditations focus on deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, and visualization techniques to ease the transition into sleep.

A nutrition plan is developed to support sleep quality. This may involve incorporating foods that promote sleep, such as those rich in tryptophan, magnesium, and melatonin, and avoiding heavy meals or stimulants close to bedtime.

Phase 4:
Ongoing Support
Sleep Diary, Monthly Meetings and Behavioral Coaching

Clients are encouraged to maintain a sleep diary within the Myndlift app, documenting their sleep patterns, bedtime routines, and the impact of any changes made. This helps track progress and identify patterns that may require further attention.

A monthly meeting with Jonathan Riesel is scheduled to review the client’s progress, adjust the neurofeedback protocol, and provide additional support for improving sleep. These sessions also focus on reinforcing positive changes and addressing any ongoing challenges.

During meetings, clients may receive coaching on managing stress and anxiety that can interfere with sleep, as well as strategies for dealing with sleep disturbances such as waking up during the night.

Monitoring and Progress Tracking

The Myndlift app provides regular check-ins to monitor the client’s progress in improving sleep quality and maintaining a consistent sleep routine. This data is used to make real-time adjustments to the action plan and neurofeedback exercises.​

Detailed progress reports are generated monthly, highlighting improvements in sleep duration, sleep quality, and overall well-being.

Phase 6:
Relapse Prevention
Coping Strategies,
Maintenance Neurofeedback
and Continued Support

As the client makes progress, additional strategies are introduced to prevent relapse into poor sleep habits. This includes maintaining a consistent sleep routine, ongoing relaxation practices, and avoiding known sleep disruptors.

Once significant progress has been made, the frequency of neurofeedback sessions may be reduced, focusing on maintaining the gains achieved and preventing relapse into insomnia.

Clients can opt for ongoing support through periodic check-ins or meetings with Jonathan to ensure long-term success in managing sleep and maintaining good sleep hygiene.

Phase 7:
Completion and Long-Term Success
Final Assessment, Maintenance Plan and Ongoing Support Options

A final assessment is conducted to measure the client’s success in improving sleep quality and overall well-being, compared to the initial baseline.

A maintenance plan is offered to sustain progress, which may include occasional neurofeedback sessions, continued access to relaxation and sleep resources, and ongoing behavioural support.

Clients have the option to continue receiving support through the app or with Jonathan, helping them maintain healthy sleep patterns and prevent future episodes of insomnia.
